Autumn foliage on the Asiago Plateau
Summer holidays have now become just memories in the drawer, but beautiful sunny days are still waiting for us, on which we can walk outdoors and enjoy the landscape of the Asiago plateau in its autumn colours.
It is the end of September, the meadows are still green as in summer but you are starting to see yellow or light brown leaves on the trees; in the green on the Leiten hill the white and imposing Military Memorial stands out, which collects the remains of the Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers of the First World War, one of the most symbolic monuments of the city of Asiago.
Autumn advances, mid-October, the days begin to shorten, but the sunlight in the early afternoon is still so intense! The vegetation and the houses are reflected in the water of the little lake Lumera, a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Asiago: here you can relax on a bench or walk along the path that leads to the districts north of the city.
Autumn is perhaps the season in which the main square Piazza Carli in the heart of Asiago becomes more fascinating, when the trees are tinged with fire red blending with the red of the buildings around – among these the Town Hall with the bell tower and to its right the prestigious Adler café. On the opposite side instead stands the Cathedral of S. Matteo, patron saint of the city.
Il Foliage
The Foliage
Right in mid-October one of my favorite events takes place in the centre of Asiago, which I try not to miss: the Foliage. The streets are filled with artistic compositions made with leaves or wood in a riot of colours and a joyful atmosphere: here are some photos taken during this year’s 2020 edition.
Also in autumn there is the opportunity to go on pleasant trips, such as the tour of the Caltrano huts, one of the favourite destinations of the Asiago plateau: it is a ring route to be covered on foot or, in summer, even by bicycle, during which you can stop and taste the local food. This photo was taken near the Rifugio Alpino, above Cesuna: the typical autumn mist creates light contrasts making the landscape very suggestive, and it makes us think that the first the cold will come soon, and it will be time to put on skis and snow shoes.
