Sono stata a Copenhagen la prima volta  nel 2010, durante un viaggio guidato nelle capitali nordiche; in quell’occasione Copenhagen era stata l’ultima città visitata, e ci eravamo fermati lì  due giorni, quindi avevamo avuto il tempo di vedere soltanto le cose più importanti.

La città mi aveva particolarmente colpito, l’avevo trovata molto dinamica e vivace, con la presenza di molta gente giovane. Quindi, quando alcuni amici quattro anni dopo mi hanno proposto di andarci, non ho perso l’occasione di rivederla!

Copenhagen and Hamlet’s Kingdom 

13 – 16 August 2014

I was in Copenhagen for the first time in 2010, during a tour of the Nordic capitals; on that occasion Copenhagen was the last city to be visited, we spent there two days, so we had time to see only the main sightseeings.

The city impressed me a lot, I found it so dynamic and lively, with a lot of young people. When some friends of mine suggested going there four years later, I didn’t miss the chance to see it again!

13 agosto: siamo partiti in mattinata con volo SAS da Venezia Marco Polo e in circa due ore siamo arrivati a Copenhagen. Nel primo pomeriggio abbiamo iniziato la nostra visita dai luoghi che si trovavano nelle vicinanze del nostro albergo.

13^th Aug.: we left from Venice Marco Polo Airport  on a SAS flight in the morning and arrived in Copenhagen in about two hours. In the early afternoon we started our visit from the places near our hotel.

Kastellet è  l‘antica cittadella fortificata  a forma pentagonale con bastioni circondati da un fossato; qui ci siamo rilassati con una bella passeggiata in un grande parco, dove si possono ammirare numerosi alberi, alcune chiesette, ed un antico mulino. Dai bastioni si può avere una vista sul porto e sulla città. Oggi gli edifici di questo  complesso sono sede del Ministero della Difesa danese.

Kastellet is an old fortified pentagonal citadel with five ramparts surrounded by a moat; here we went for a beautiful, relaxing walk in a big park, where you can see a lot of trees, some churches, as well as an old windmill. From the ramparts you can also enjoy a nice view over the harbour and the city. Today the buildings of this complex are the head quarters of the  Danish Defence Ministry.

Abbiamo  percorso la passeggiata a mare Langelinie,  che fiancheggia Kastellet, con sosta  dalla Lille Havfrue, la statua della famosa Sirenetta, per  una foto di gruppo davanti ad uno dei simboli più famosi della città: la sua storia è presa dalla omonima fiaba dello scrittore danese H.C. Andersen .

We walked down the Langelinie promenade along Kastellet, and stopped by Lille Havfrue, the  famous Little Mermaid’s statue, to take a group photo in front of one of the most famous symbols of the city: her story is taken from the  fairy tale by the Danish writer H.C.Andersen.

Poi ci siamo recati alla residenza reale di Amalienborg, vicino a cui abbiamo ammirato la fontana circolare progettata dall’italiano A. Pomodoro. Alla sera abbiamo cenato in un ristorante vicino all’hotel.

Then we went to  Amalienborg, the home of the Royal Danish family, and there we admired the round fountain designed by the Italian A. Pomodoro. In the evening we had dinner in a restaurant near the hotel.

14 agosto: dopo una costosa ma buona colazione in caffetteria con cappuccino e croissant (al forte sapore di burro!), abbiamo effettuato un tour dei canali, un modo fantastico di esplorare Copenhagen con il suo porto ed i suoi canali. Esso dura  circa un’ora, durante il quale si ammirano, tra gli altri edifici, il Teatro dell’Opera e la biblioteca reale, chiamata  il Diamante Nero.

14^th Aug.: after an expensive but good  breakfast in a cafeteria with cappuccino and croissants (with a strong butter flavour!), we took a trip on the canal tour, a fantastic way to experience Copenhagen’s harbour and the canals. It lasts  about an hour and along the way you can see, besides other buildings, the Opera Theatre and the royal library, called the Black Diamond.

Poi ci siamo tuffati nel cuore della città, nello Stroget, la lunghissima  via pedonale dello shopping, piena di negozi di ogni tipo e caffè, ed animata da turisti ed artisti di strada: da non perdere il Royal Copenhagen con la  sua bellissima collezione in porcellana di servizi da tavola dipinti a mano e articoli regalo, ed il LEGO Store!

Then we  plunged into Stroget, the heart of the city, the  very long pedestrian shopping street   full of all sorts of shops and cafès, and crowded with tourists  and street artists; you can’t miss the Royal Copenhagen and its wonderful porcelain collection of hand-painted dinnerware and gift articles, as well as the LEGO Store!

Along Stroget, we stopped in Amagertorv Square for another group photo by  the marvellous   Stork Fountain!. 

 Quindi abbiamo visto dall’esterno il castello  di Christiansborg, che in passato serviva da fortezza, mentre ora è sede del Parlamento, ed abbiamo pranzato nella piazza davanti ad esso.

After that we saw the outside of Christiansborg Castle, that in the past served as a fortress, and now is the seat of the Danish Parliament, and we had lunch in the  square in front of it.

Accanto al palazzo di Christiansborg vi è il Borsen, palazzo della Borsa: esso è in stile olandese rinascimentale, ed è uno degli edifici più  eleganti e caratteristici di Copenhagen, del quale colpiscono la facciata in laterizio ed il tetto in rame, sul quale spicca un’alta guglia a spirale.

Next to Christiansborg Palace there’s The Old Stock Exchange, called Borsen: it is  in Dutch Renaissance style, and it is one of Copenhagen’s  most elegant, typical buildings,  its distinctive features  are the brick façade and the  copper roof, with a  high spire on its top.

Nel pomeriggio, dopo un riposino in albergo eravamo in ottima forma per salire sulla torre rotonda, che in passato serviva da base dell’osservatorio astronomico dell’università. Si sale lungo una rampa elicoidale e dall’alto  si gode di una splendida vista della città .

In the afternoon, after a nap in the hotel, we    were really fit for going up  the round tower, that in the past was the seat of the university observatory. You can climb a spiral ramp and from the top you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city.

La visita è proseguita con il palazzo di Rosenborg, utilizzato in passato come residenza reale, mentre oggi è un museo dove si possono vedere i gioielli della Corona ed altri oggetti preziosi. Prima della visita, ci siamo rilassati un po’ nel bellissimo giardino che circonda il palazzo!

The visit continued with Rosenborg Palace: in the past it used to be a royal residence, whereas now it is a museum where you can see the Crown jewels and other precious objects. Before the visit, we relaxed for a while in the marvellous garden that surrounds the palace!

Una cena romantica

Alla sera, cena romantica  lungo il canale del nuovo porto, chiamato Nyhavn! Qui si trovano numerosi ristoranti e caffè molto caratteristici, dove in estate è possibile anche mangiare all’aperto. Lungo le rive del canale, si ammirano le facciate colorate degli edifici, particolarmente suggestive al tramonto.

A romantic dinner

In the evening,  romantic dinner along the canal of the new harbour, called Nyhavn! Here there are lots of typical restaurants and cafès, and in the summer you can have dinner outside, too. Along the banks of the canals you will see the colourful façades of the buildings, particularly charming at sunset. 

15 agosto: nel regno di Amleto

Essendo a Copenhagen, non potevamo dimenticare di visitare il luogo  dove il celebre autore inglese Shakespeare ambientò la tragica storia del principe danese Amleto; dopo la colazione in hotel, abbiamo preso il treno per effettuare una gita a Helsingor, anche conosciuta come Elsinore, (tempo per arrivarci circa un’ora) e visitare il  castello di Kronborg, comunemente chiamato Castello di Amleto, la maestosa antica fortezza militare da cui Shakespeare trasse ispirazione per la sua opera. Peccato che non abbiamo avuto occasione di vedere la rappresentazione della tragedia che ha luogo proprio qui nel periodo estivo…dev’essere emozionante viverla in loco! 

15^th  Aug.:  in Hamlet’s Kingdom

Being in Copenhagen, we couldn’t forget to visit the place where the famous English writer Shakespeare set the tragical story of the Danish prince Hamlet; after breakfast at the hotel, we took the train and went on a trip to Helsingor, also known as Elsinore, (it takes about an hour to get there) where we visited Kronborg castle, commonly known as Hamlet’s Castle, the majestic ancient military fortress from which Shakespeare drew inspiration for his work. Too bad we didn’t have the opportunity to see the representation of the tragedy that takes place right here in the summer … it must be exciting to experience it on site!

Elsinore è situata molto vicino alla costa svedese, che si può raggiungere in battello. Inoltre c’è un collegamento da Copenhagen a Malmo in Svezia passando in  bus sull’Oresundsbron, un ponte lungo 15 km, inaugurato nel 2000, che corre in parte sotto il mare. Panorama mozzafiato!

Elsinore is  situated    very close to the Swedish coast, which can be reached by boat. Besides there’s a bus trip connecting Copenhagen to Malmo in Sweden, on the Oresundsbron, a bridge 15 km long, dating from 2000, a part of which is under the sea. Breathtaking view!

Per pranzo abbiamo assaggiato lo smorrebrod, tipico panino danese che viene servito aperto e condito con ingredienti a piacere. Siamo rientrati in albergo nel tardo pomeriggio.

For lunch we tried smorrebrod, a typical local open sandwich  filled with whichever  ingredients  you like. We went back to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Alla sera, dopo cena siamo andati nel parco divertimenti di Tivoli: quando lo avevo visto  di giorno, nel mio precedente viaggio, ero rimasta ammirata dai bellissimi colori dei suoi giardini e degli edifici, ma devo dire che è altrettanto  suggestivo alla sera, con le sue mille luci che illuminano i numerosi caffè, ristoranti e una delle sue  maggiori attrazioni, le giostre!

In the evening after dinner we went to Tivoli amusement park: when I had seen it by day, on my previous holiday, I had been  enchanted by the amazing colours of its gardens and buildings, but I must say that it’s equally impressive by night, with its thousands of lights that illuminate the numerous cafès, the restaurants and one of its main attractions, the rides!

16 agosto: dopo colazione, abbiamo completato la nostra visita della città e siamo andati nella piazza del municipio; l’edificio del municipio è in mattoni rossi e la sua architettura è influenzata sia dallo stile medioevale nordico, sia dal municipio di Siena. Purtroppo il tempo  rimasto a nostra disposizione era poco e così, dopo pranzo abbiamo dovuto rientrare in hotel per prendere le nostre valigie ed andare all’aeroporto. Siamo ripartiti per l’Italia nel pomeriggio, entusiasti per questo viaggio ed anche molto contenti perchè, mentre nel nord Italia c’era un tempo autunnale, a Copenhagen abbiamo sempre avuto belle giornate di sole!!

16^th Aug.: after breakfast, we completed our city tour and  went to the City Hall square; the City Hall  building is in red bricks, and its architecture is influenced by both  medieval northern style and the  City Hall in Siena. Unfortunatley we had only little time left and so, after lunch we had to go back to the hotel, take our luggage and go to the airport. We left for Italy in the afternoon, we were enthusiastic about this trip and also very glad because, whereas in northern Italy there was autumn weather, in Copenhagen we always had beautiful sunny days!!
